Tim Gardner, a 15-year-old from Littlemore, Oxford, is in danger of missing a special summer trip to West Berlin due to a civil servants’ strike causing a backlog in passport applications. His trip organiser Mr Bob Martyn has taken seven passport applications to the passport office in Newport, South Wales, but Tim’s was not among the six that were returned. Now, Mr Martyn and Tim are hoping that anyone in Oxfordshire who is planning to go to the Newport office in the near future can help them get the remaining passport in time. Mr Martyn said staff at the passport office were happy to deal with written queries, so if anyone is planning to go to Newport for a passport in the near future, they could prompt the appearance of Tim’s missing document. In the photograph, Tim is pictured sending out his SOS with classmates and teachers from Peers School in Littlemore, Oxford.Tim Gardner, a 15-year-old from Littlemore, Oxford, is in danger of missing a special summer trip to West Berlin due to a civil servants’ strike causing a backlog in passport applications. Tim Gardner, 15, is due to join a dozen classmates and teachers from Peers School in Littlemore, Oxford, on the trip next Saturday, but a strike by civil servants means he has not got a passport yet. Trip organiser Mr Bob Martyn took seven passport applications to the passport office in Newport, South Wales, last week so they could be sure of avoiding the backlog of postal applications. Six came back to the school, but Tim’s did not. Now Mr Martyn and Tim are hoping anyone in Oxfordshire who might be going to the Newport office in the next few days could help them get the remaining passport in time. r Mr Martyn said: “There is a long queue, but if anyone could take a message down there for us to help hurry Tim’s application through, it could save the day.” Mr Martyn said staff at the passport office were happy to deal with written queries, so if anyone is planning to go to Newport for a passport in the near future, they could prompt the appearance of Tim’s missing document. Tim is pictured sending out his SOS with, back from left, Zoe Frederick, teacher Jan Rushton, Rachael Inness, Paul Jamieson and Nigel Membury, and, front, Philip Earl and Katie O’Donnell. Meanwhile Tim, who lives in Vicarage Close, Littlemore, is hoping the passport to his holiday adventure won’t stay clogged in a red-tape pipeline. Story: BEN FENTON Picture: STEVE RANDALL
