These two cottages, The Cott and Barn Cottage Lans, were probably the first ones to be rebuilt soon after the Great Hagbourne Fire of 1659. The fire destroyed cottages across the fields beside Hakkas Brook, and these dwellings were never rebuilt, leading to the creation of East and West Hagbourne villages. The two cottages have been owned by the Napper family for the past 50 years, having been bought by the late Mrs Emma Napper for 90.These two cottages, The Cott and Barn Cottage Lans, were probably the first ones to be rebuilt soon after the Great Hagbourne Fire of 1659.
