On Saturday, June 17th 1954, the chapel of St. Edward’s School was packed for a special service to dedicate the new war memorial library and art school. The building was constructed from a fund subscribed by old boys and friends of the school to commemorate the 154 old boys who lost their lives in the last war. Relatives of the fallen, and members of the old boys’ society, occupied places of honour at the ceremony. The Bishop of Exeter, Dr. R. C. Mortimer, who is chairman of the governors, performed the dedication, and the Warden, the Rev. H. E. Kendall, formerly unlocked the main door of the building. The Warden described the event as “a purely family affair” and expressed that it was to keep the memory of those they commemorated ever before those who were still at the school that the new building had been erected. On Saturday, June 17th 1954, the chapel of St. Edward’s School was packed for a special service to dedicate the new war memorial library and art school. J 5-6-54 Oxford St. Edwards. School g PHOTOGRAP OXFORD MA COPYRIGHT on Saturuay. Lext: the warden, the Rev. H. E. Kendall, unlock- ing the door. NEW ART SCHOOL AND L LIBRARY Memorial to war dead opened THE THE chapel of St. Edward’s School was packed on Saturday at a special service for the dedication of the new war memorial library and art school. The new building, which is not quite complete, was built from a fund subscribed by old boys and friends of the school to commemorate the 154 old boys who lost their lives in the last war. R Describing it as “a purely family affair,” the Warden said the presence of so many did honour to the memory of those they commemorated. It was to keep their memory ever before those who were still at the school that the new build- ing had been erected. 17. JUN 1954 E
