13 NOV 1981 Mummers at play Early morning duels were never like this. Both sides chose sword and shield for the weekend clash outside the Clifden Arms at Worminghall. But it was all in fun. The Wheatley Morris Men were performing a tradi- tional mummers’ play as part of their festival of music. The lads found it so cold they soon had o retire to the bar for their famous stick dance. Landlord Mr Bob Spencer said: “They had to perform in the pub and there were a few cracked heads on the beams too. But it was great fun and everyone had a good time.” 13.11.81
