On June 22nd, 1989, members of the Wantage-based White Horse Harriers running team presented a cheque for 1,015.60 to the Oxford Mail Life Saver Appeal. The funds were raised through generous sponsorship by the harriers during the London Marathon. The donation helped the appeal reach its goal of equipping Oxfordshire ambulances with the latest fibrillator equipment. The team was made up of husband and wife Marion and Alan Jones, Deryck Bellis, Chris Powell, Lisa Godding and Dennis Thomas. Big-hearted harriers top their target MARATHON run- ners set a quicker pace than expected to boost the Oxford Mail Life Saver Appeal. The athletes from Wantage-based White Horse Harriers had hoped to raise about 800 in the London mar- athon, but generous sponsorship enabled them to top the 1,000 mark. At a presentation at Wantage Recreation Centre, they handed over a cheque for 1,015.60.
