A nation of windmills, clogs and tulips … is that how we think of the Dutch? If so, it is a grave injustice to the enterprise, skills and far-sightedness of an ambitious and determined people. So says Mr Dennis Baldock, head of Geography at West Oxfordshire Technical College in Witney, who recently led a party of young students to the Netherlands. The 11 students are all on an advanced level geography course and were accompanied by Mr Baldock and another member of staff, Mrs Doreen Turner. They stayed at a youth hostel in The Hague and visited several areas of Holland, covering aspects of industrial, commercial and agricultural life. The following is a report compiled by Mr Baldock together with the 11 students. By its very nature geography is probably the one academic subject that demands to be occasionally released from the constraining effects of the clas- sroom. Almost any type of environment may prove fruitful… indeed, in some respects Carterton may be much more appropriate and rewarding as a venue for fieldwork than a mysterious far-off place like Katmandu! inating 3 mag 17 DEC 1981 17 DEC 1981 Andrew James and Lisa Delnevo inspect peppers destined for the UK market.
