On July 11, 1980, three school heads who had dedicated over 55 years to schools on Oxford’s largest council estate, retired at the same time. To honor the occasion, Mr. Jake Jacobs of Shepherds Hill Middle School was given a microwave oven and golf clubs, Miss Pam Drury of Orchard First School Meadow was given a cheque, and Mr. Jimmy James of Overmede First School was presented with binoculars and garden furniture.On July 11, 1980, three school heads who had dedicated over 55 years to schools on Oxford’s largest council estate, retired at the same time. James ames Three take a break THREE school ‘heads who between have them 55 years to devoted schools on Oxford’s big- gest council estate, have picked the same time to retire. “It will be a break for all three of us; we have been attached to the estate for so long,” said Mr Jake Jacobs (top left of pic- ture), of Shepherds Hill Middle School, Blackbird Leys. “We are the only heads our schools have had.” Mr Jacobs, of Bickerton Road, Headington, head for 21 years, was given a microwave oven and a couple of golf clubs by governors, staff, parents and pupils. Pam Miss Drury (centre), of Elms Drive, Marston, head of Orchard First School Meadow since it opened in 1961, received a cheque from everyone connected with the school. Mr Jimmy James, of Radley, came to Over- mede First School in 1965. He was presented with binoculars and garden fur- niture.
