On April 15th, 1960, two female students from London University, 21-year-olds Pat Barnard and Valerie Phillips, dressed in period gingham dresses and ably assisted by their top-hatted crew members, set off in a 28-foot punt at the beginning of an epic race to Cambridge. The punt was taking part in an overland boat race with a difference. Teams from Oxford, London and Cambridge Universities are sprinting in punts, fitted with wheels, in an overland race to Cambridge, hoping to arrive in time for the University Fiesta Day there.
